VR Cargo and Eurosib SPb – Transportation Systems signed cooperation agreement

Eurosib SPb – Transportation Systems signed a contract with VR Cargo (Finnish Railways) for the provision of transport services to Eurosib rolling stock operating in Finland. The contract was signed during the 14th International Freight, Transportation and Logistics Exhibition TransRussia – 2009 which is being held on 21-24 April 2009 at the Central Exhibition Complex EXPOCENTER in Moscow.

Eurosib SPb -Transportation Systems was represented at the signing ceremony by the company’s General Director Eduard Musienko, Commercial Director Irog Tolstikhin and Head of Department of covered wagon shipments Irina Smirnova who is also the project supervisor. VR Cargo was represented by Marketing Manager and Board Member Matti Andersson and Head of Sales Ari-Pekka Tynys, both of whom are closely involved in Russia and CIS operations.

Eurosib SPb – Transportation Systems Commercial Director Igor Tolstikhin said: «We have enjoyed very close, stable and mutually profitable relations with VR Cargo which has been our strategic partner for many years. We plan to continue our cooperation in order to further increase and optimize cargo shipments between Western Europe and Russia and CIS countries and to enhance the efficiency of our cooperation with key customers and partners».
The new agreement envisages that Eurosib SPb – Transportation Systems will be provided cargo shipment services in Finland paying the rail fees currently in force there. The companies will also exchange information and provide additional services in the areas of rolling stock repair and maintenance (for so called commercial faultiness) and cargo monitoring (wagon tracking along the route, customs clearance and cargo insurance).

The types of cargo carried by Eurosib SPb – Transportation Systems mostly include products of the timber processing industry: paper, cardboard, pulp, wood chips, sawdust, roundwood and saw timber. In 2008 the volume of cargo shipped by Eurosib SPb – Transportation Systems between Russia and Finland totaled 1,372 thousand tonnes, or 7,2% of all cargo turnover between the two countries.

The first contract between Eurosib SPb – Transportation Systems and VR Cargo was signed back in 1994. During the past 15 years of its operations in the Finnish market Eurosib SPb – Transportation Systems has established a large client base in the country which includes companies like Metsaliitto, Stora Enso, UPM Kymmene, John Nurminen Oy, Steveco and other big Finnish industries.
